If the above list of words resonates with you then welcome to my world. My name is Vishal and I live in North London UK.
I have been into HiFi since I was a child, not just Hi-fi but anything mechanical or electronic. My mother would open my school bag and instead of finding books she would be greeted with screwdrivers and electronic parts. I was always taking things apart or trying to repair stuff that was broken.
My Hifi story begins at the early age of 5 years old, my Uncle Tim had an Armstrong 626 receiver matched with a pair of 2 Way speakers he built himself using a KEF B200 8” driver with a Peerless DT10HF dome tweeter, those speakers I eventually inherited when he upgraded. That was my first experience of 70’s Hifi sound which even by today's standard still sounds wonderful.
By the age of 10 years old I was building my own speakers, my first pair were a set of floor standing speakers with dual 6.5inch Audax bass drivers, 4-inch midrange and a 1-inch soft dome tweeter, thanks to my Uncle for funding that project and starting me on my journey.
As a teenager I grew up in the 90’s where brands such as Technics, Pioneer, Onkyo etc. were pushing massive stack systems which at the time was what everyone wanted, I loved all the buttons and controls and flashing lights, while kids at thirteen wanted Nintendo’s and Gameboys I wanted a STACK music system.
I couldn’t afford those things at that age so instead I used to find old stereo’s and speakers that were thrown away or given to me. My parents got annoyed because I kept filling the shed with “Hifi Rubbish”, you should see my workshop now not much has changed some three decades later.
I love Hifi, I love music and I like refurbishing and making things better. I only do full rebuilds and refurbishments, I don’t do simple repairs. I like British Audio Gear, stuff like Quad, Tannoy, Leak, Wharfedale etc. but also fond of Marantz, Luxmann and Pioneer gear from the 70s.
Here at Dark Horse Audio it’s an all or nothing approach, if you want your loudspeakers or turntable to be rebuilt like factory, or upgraded to create a one off piece, then this is where I shine and can happily take on a job.
